Why you should screen your employees and volunteers [back to ScreenNow]
The importance of screening at the hiring stage cannot be overstated --especially
when hiring for positions that require or facilitate regular contact with residents
in your community’s charge.
A significant number of cases involving employees and volunteers at assisted living
communities would not have occurred if the community had screened out known offenders
during the employment search.
It is not unusual for an individual who has been terminated at one assisted living
facility to seek employment at another--in the same area or even in another state.
You cannot be absolutely certain that you are screening out sexual abusers, but
there are methods that help. These important guidelines should be considered seriously
by any assisted living, skilled nursing, Alzheimer’s care, adult day care or in-home
care when hiring any employee or seeking volunteers to work with children.
